Kuinka saada toimialue- ja IP-osoitetiedot WHOIS-komennolla

WHOIS on TCP-pohjainen kysely- ja vastausprotokolla, jota käytetään yleisesti tarjoamaan tietopalveluja Internet-käyttäjille. Se palauttaa tietoja rekisteröidyistä verkkotunnuksista, IP-osoitelohkosta, nimipalvelimista ja paljon laajemmasta tietopalveluista.

Linuxissa whois-komentorivi-apuohjelma on WHOIS-asiakas kommunikointiin WHOIS-palvelimen (tai tietokannan isännän) kanssa, joka kuuntelee pyyntöjä tunnetulta porttinumerolta 43, joka tallentaa ja toimittaa tietokannan sisällön ihmisen luettavassa muodossa.

whois-komentorivin apuohjelmaa ei ole esiasennettu moniin Linux-jakeluihin, asenna se jakeluasi vastaavan komennon avulla.
