Kuinka saada verkkotunnus- ja IP-osoitetiedot WHOIS-komennolla

WHOIS on TCP-pohjainen kysely- ja vastausprotokolla, jota käytetään yleisesti tietopalvelujen tarjoamiseen Internetin käyttäjille. Se palauttaa tietoja rekisteröidyistä verkkotunnuksista, IP-osoitelohkosta, nimipalvelimista ja paljon laajemmasta valikoimasta tietopalveluja.

Linuxissa whois-komentoriviapuohjelma on WHOIS-asiakas, joka on tarkoitettu kommunikoimaan WHOIS-palvelimen (tai tietokantaisäntäkoneen) kanssa, joka kuuntelee pyyntöjä tunnetulla porttinumerolla 43, joka tallentaa ja toimittaa tietokantasisältöä ihmisen luettavassa muodossa.
